Plowboy asked:

I bought my daughter a baseball pitching machine and cage at a good price and lowered the machine into the ground until the the ball release point was the level of a fastpitch pitcher’s release. we set speed at 60 mph@ 35ft.
will the smaller balls effect hitting softballs later

umm, no not really. the only thing bad about a pitching machine is that sometimes kids get used to seeing the ball come from one place, and the easy solution to this is to pitcher to her every now and then. at a young age it shouldn’t be that big of a deal though, this becomes more of a problem when they are older, and its not like a perment problems its like a week long issue. so don’t stress out about it. umm just as long shes not taking baseball swings she’ll be fine, in fact having the little ball may help a bit.

The advantage of using this machine with baseballs would be seeing a smaller target and learning to spot it and hit it. When your daughter gets into a game situation it will be easier to spot the softball and hit it because she is used to smaller targets. However, the disadvantage of any machine is that the ball goes to the same spot everytime and it makes learning to find the ball at different positions and hitting it more challenging. Other great excercises would be soft toss to different locations or doing tennis ball or wiffle ball excercises.
